Our Client Testimonials
From: Joyce Stone
With all the information on health and fitness that has come to light in the last 20 years, I, like many sexagenarians, managed to remain oblivious to my own health needs. In 2006, I completed 40 years in education, the last 10 in the high stress role of high school principal. It became very easy to neglect my own health and wellness needs. Ironically, I invested a great deal of time and energy in talking to adolescents about emotional well-being, self-esteem, healthy decision-making, and setting priorities. In the meanwhile, my life became even more complicated by the complete deterioration of both knees, one from an ancient track injury in junior high school and the other from a lifetime of compensation for the weaker knee. As a result, I underwent full bi-lateral knee replacement and embarked upon a tenuous plan of recovery, tenuous because I could not find the time to invest in full recovery.
In June 2006, I made what I thought was a healthy decision to retire from the principalship and "semi-retire" into the less demanding role of educational consultant and to work on my knees. To my surprise in June 2007, when I reflected on the previous year, not much had changed. I worked 12 hours days, flying from Alaska to Virginia to Canada to New York and back to Vermont….I was overweight, out of shape, and exhausted. Furthermore, my knee flexion and stamina were no better, and I had no plan to ensure that I would remain well and fit as I grew older. To the contrary: I had suffered devastating head injuries in a fall that might have been avoided were I in better shape—more flexible and stable on my feet.
Dramatic as it may sound, my neighbors Tam and Jim set me on the course that has changed my life. When I told them that I planned to travel to Bolivia, South America, to hike the Che Guevara trail with a group of female friends, they convinced me to forego the Andes until I had a body that could survive the challenge. To that end, they connected me with Peter, head trainer at Body Resolutions in South Burlington, VT. In June I embarked upon a journey that would have been impossible at almost any other gym. I needed privacy, individualization, a fitness plan designed for my unique needs and goals, and confidence in myself and in my trainer. Peter has helped me address all four of these considerations.
With the four different workout areas, Body Resolutions offers full privacy for a one-on-one session (one hour) with my trainer. Ten years ago I tried a traditional gym, paid $1400 for a membership, went twice, and never returned. I needed something that the gym could not provide: privacy and a plan. Peter assessed my needs and goals during my initial visit. He has helped me pick up where I left off with physical therapy: I have a plan to extend the flexion in my knees, improve my stability, and increase overall stamina. As these goals are met, I have moved into cardio-fitness and other functions that move me closer to the goals of hiking in the Andes and ensuring that I will be well and fit in the future.
The trainers at Body Resolutions are friendly, supportive, and committed to know their clients well. Peter knows me as an individual with unique fitness needs and builds upon my strengths and challenges. Every moment of the 60-minute session is designed with this mission in mind. I am confident that my trainer understands my goals and how to get me there. By working on a combination of upper body, lower body, and core strength, I have lost weight, increased the flexion in my knees, and dramatically improved overall stability. What seemed out of reach four months ago has become commonplace. I have reclaimed my future, and I have Peter, Body Resolutions, and myself to thank for that. I urge everyone to consider this: Being well and fit is not limited to those who are young, strong, and already in good shape. This experience has changed my life and my future.
